ANIMAL WASTE MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS
DEEP PIT BARNS
Deep pit barns can be a great benefit to water quality. BSRP and some of our partners can offer cost-share for the initial, higher price tag of a deep pit barn system. Greater livestock density, safe waste storage, and increased feeding efficiency and gains are just a few of the bonuses.
MANURE PACK BARNS
Like deep pit barns, BSRP has also been involved in some manure pack barn projects. Similar in many ways to deep pit barns, manure pack barns as well as self-contained lots are an important tool for livestock, water, and human health.
ANIMAL WASTE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM FEASIBILITY STUDIES AND DESIGNS
BSRP offers feasibility studies and designs for interested landowners and operators. If you're not sure what you want to do or what might work on your land, contact us and we'll be happy to work on something together.
ANIMAL WASTE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM CONSTRUCTION
No only does the BSRP help with feasibility studies and design, we help cost-share construction of facilities. We know the programs and partners that will be the best cost-savings benefit to you.
NUTRIENT MANAGEMENT PLANNING
Barry Berg is certified in nutrient management plan design and can help producers come up with a plan that works best for their land. This includes how and when to best apply manure, and in what amounts, from your animal waste management system.
FENCING
BSRP often cost-shares livestock exclusion fencing as part of RAM and SRAM programs. Our programs (and buffer widths) are flexible, meaning you won't have to rebuild a fence after every high water event. We work with each individual producer to come up with the right fencing plan for their needs. Oftentimes, fences that are already in place can be used.
ALTERNATIVE WATER SOURCE
WELLS, PIPELINES, AND TANKS
As part of RAM and SRAM, the BSRP requires an alternative water source to ensure livestock health and water quality benefits. Producers who install alternative water sources report that as an added bonus, livestock experience less sickness, greater gains, and actually prefer a clean, alternative water source.
ROTATION AND OTHER GRAZING MANAGEMENT PLANNING
BSRP can help producers come up with a grazing management plan that works for their livestock and land. Through grazing management, the land has a chance to recover, and livestock have more, better food.
